The show focuses on Southern Soul of the '60s and early '70s, before black music became a strictly urban format. Core artists include Joe Tex, Joe Simon, James Carr, Otis Redding, etc. In addition to the great vocalists, the show hopes to spotlight the great house bands at American Sound Studios, Stax, Hi, FAME, & Muscle Shoals Sound. Also love a good Country Soul "message song" (Games People Play, In The Ghetto, etc.) by soulful white southerners mixing Country/Soul/Rock.
